How do you get blood out of a mattress?

Remove bloodstains from a mattress by sponging with a cool solution of water and liquid dishwashing detergent, blotting with a clean towel to absorb the stain and rinsing by sponging with cool water and blotting to remove the detergent. If any stain remains, try blotting with hydrogen peroxide before drying.
- Sponge with detergent solution
Mix a tablespoon of hand dishwashing detergent with 2 cups of cool water. Use a clean white towel to apply the solution to the bloodstain, wetting it thoroughly without saturating the mattress. Allow it to soak for a few seconds to dissolve the blood.
- Blot to absorb the liquid
Switch to a new towel, and blot the mattress dry, removing as much water as possible from the bed. Repeat the sponging and blotting process until you remove the blood from the mattress.
- Rinse the detergent from the mattress
Use another clean towel to sponge clean water onto the mattress, and blot it dry. Repeat the process until you remove all the detergent from the mattress.
- Blot with hydrogen peroxide
If there is remaining stain, sponge the area using 3 percent hydrogen peroxide, and blot to remove the blood and peroxide from the fabric.
- Allow the bed to dry
Before putting sheets back on the bed, allow the mattress to dry thoroughly. Increase the air circulation by directing a fan toward the wet spot.
