The pufferfish, also known as the blowfish, is omnivorous and primarily eats algae and small invertebrates that inhabit coral and rocks. One of the most poisonous animals in the world, the pufferfish can inflate itself, with some species possessing sharp spines as an added deterrent to predators.
Although its skin and liver are toxic, the pufferfish is considered a delicacy in some parts of the world, such as Japan. Over 120 species of pufferfish exist, with most inhabiting tropical waters. The pufferfish is a small to medium sized fish, although some puffers are capable of reaching lengths of 39 inches or more.
