What is a Blue Book salvage title?

Kelley Blue Book is a guide that provides pricing on cars and other vehicles, except those with salvage titles. Most cars with salvage titles have been in an accident or stolen, or the cost of fixing the car is more than the value of the car itself.

A car with a salvage title is worth 50 percent of its Kelley Blue Book value, and though Kelley Blue Book does not include pricing cars with salvage titles, it estimates that cars with salvage titles are worth between 30 percent and 50 percent less than cars without salvage titles. For fair and accurate pricing, cars should be evaluated on a case-by-case basis instead of solely by book value.
