What does "body image" mean in a health context?

From a health perspective, the concept of "body image" refers to the way that a person views his own physical appearance. Body image can be either positive or negative and can be distorted by society's perceptions of physical beauty.

Body image includes any beliefs that a person has about his own height, weight or other physical features. Negative body image can lead to depression, low self esteem and social anxiety. Body image issues are most common among people who suffer from eating disorders, such as anorexia and bulimia. Body image is influenced from a very young age by peers, family expectations and popular media.
