Are bonded leather couches durable?

Bonded leather couches are less durable than genuine leather couches, according to Consumer Affairs. Consumers who purchase bonded leather furniture, which is cheaper than genuine leather furniture, may notice that the material does not last as long as authentic leather.
Bonded leather is made of leftover pieces of leather from tanneries, says FOW Fine Furniture. Manufacturers grind up these pieces, bind them together with latex, and add a layer of vinyl or polyurethane to the surface. This material may look and feel like real leather, but it can fall apart quickly. Furniture retailers sometimes fail to disclose that bonded leather furniture contains artificial components.
