Boyd Coddington's death was caused by sepsis, kidney issues and other complications from a recent surgery. At 63, he died on Feb. 27, 2008. He was admitted to Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital in Whittier, Calif. in early 2008 and underwent surgery to correct a perforated colon, which led to his death.

Boyd Coddington was an American hot rod designer and the star of "American Hot Rod," which aired on TLC and the Discovery Channel from 2004 to 2008. He owned the Boyd Coddington Hot Rod Shop in La Habra, Calif., where he built custom cars. Hot Rod Magazine named Coddington man of the year in 1988.
