How do you build a fixed pulley?

A fixed pulley is built by attaching a rod to a fixed surface and placing a wheel or spool onto the bar. Loop rope around the wheel while fixing it to the rod, and attach the item to be lifted to the other end of the rope.

Building a fixed pulley is easy if a dowel, spool and rope are available. These are put together to create a moving pulley system that uses leverage to move a heavy object with less effort.

A fixed pulley helps to lift objects by using leverage: applying force at one point to move a second point that lifts an object positioned at a third.
