The Great Pyramid of Giza was built during the reign of Fourth Dynasty Egyptian Pharaoh Khufu over a 20 year period ending in 2540 B.C. Academics believe that Khufu's vizier Hemon was responsible for the design of the Pyramid, with at least 40,000 workers employed in its construction.
The Great Pyramid stands at a height of 455 feet and was the world's tallest man-made structure for more than 4,300 years. The pyramid was conceived as a burial chamber for Khufu and his wife, and is one of three pyramids still standing at the Giza Necropolis, a complex that also includes the Sphinx.
