Who built the Money Pit on Oak Island?

The builders of the Money Pit on Oak Island have remained a mystery, but treasure hunters have speculated that it was built by the Knights Templar, the pirate Captain William Kidd and many others. Since its discovery in 1795, the Money Pit has attracted many famous adventurers.

For centuries, treasure hunters have attempted to dig down the Money Pit to reach whatever treasure lies at the bottom, but a series of drains have prevented anyone from reaching the bottom. Despite the deaths of many hunters, excavation of the site continues. As of 2015, a History Channel series, "The Curse of Oak Island," follows the excavation attempts of the current owners of the island.
