Who is buried in the Pantheon in Rome?

Among the notable people buried at Rome's Pantheon are painters Raphael and Annibale Carracci, composer Arcangelo Corelli and architect Baldassare Peruzzi. Also buried there are two kings of Italy, Vittorio Emanuele II and Umberto I.

Raphael's fiancée, Maria Bibbiena, is also buried near his sarcophagus. She died before the two had a chance to marry. Pope Gregory XVI donated the sarcophagus with an epigraph written by poet Pietro Bembo.

Founded in 1878, the National Institute of Honour Guards to the Royal Tombs cares for the kings' tombs. Though Italy is no longer a monarchy, the guards still perform their maintenance duties.
