Some bushes that thrive in the shade are mountain laurels, climbing hydrangea, emerald and gold euonymus, and hemlocks. These shrubs are low-maintenance and require little sunlight in order to grow.
Mountain laurel plants are native to eastern North America. In its natural habitat, the plant grows in woodland areas where it is shaded by trees. Climbing hydrangeas are shade-tolerant vines that also produce flowers that help beautify any shaded area. Emerald and gold euonymus have bi-colored leaves and can thrive in minimal sunlight. Hemlocks are large broadleaf shrubs; in addition to thriving in shady areas, they also help provide privacy screens because of their size.
