Is there a school to become a mortician?

There are 57 mortuary science programs in the United States accredited by the American Board of Funeral Service Education as of 2012. Nine of the accredited programs offer a bachelor's degree.
While it depends upon the state in which an individual seeks employment, generally an associate degree is the minimum education necessary to become a mortician. In addition to a degree, the International Conference of Funeral Service Examining Boards licenses all morticians. The requirements for licensing stipulate that the licensee must be at least 21 years old. He must have served a one- to three-year apprenticeship and must pass a 340-question exam.
