Butterfly fish have an average length of about 8 inches. There are over 100 different species of butterfly fish, and the majority display a variety of vibrant colors, including reds, blues, yellows and oranges. The bright colors help butterfly fish stay safe at night by blending in with the reef colors. Butterfly fish are found near coral reefs throughout the world.
