Where do you buy a capacitor?

Capacitors are available at Sears.com, Grainger.com and BestBuy.com, as of 2015. Sears and Grainger inventories include hundreds of components including motor start, motor run and aluminum electrolytic capacitors; Best Buy's offerings include hybrid capacitors. The websites offer customers an equipment comparison feature.

A capacitor can function as a battery; the difference is that a capacitor does not produce power, but only stores it. The terminals of a capacitor connect to a pair of metal plates divided by a dielectric, a non-conducting material such as ceramic or Teflon. Made in a wide range of sizes, capacitors are used to repair or modify electronic equipment, supply power, manage the flow of electricity, and prevent interference of radio frequencies.
