Where does calcium come from?

All calcium in the universe was originally created inside stars. When these stars exploded, many elements, including calcium, were launched outward into space. Some eventually reached the surface of the Earth billions of years later.
Thanks to these ancient exploding stars, calcium is now found naturally in many foods, including dairy products, broccoli and spinach. Calcium is needed to build and maintain strong, healthy bones. Osteoporosis is the weakening of bones, and this ailment becomes more prominent as humans age. For this reason, it is important for older people to get plenty of calcium from their diet, which helps to prevent bone breaks and fractures.
