What is call forwarding?

Call forwarding is a special feature on some telephones that allows users to divert incoming calls to another destination. The diverted call is redirected to another telephone number, voicemail box or compatible communication device where the user is available.

With call forwarding, cell phone users can choose how or when they want the incoming calls to be forwarded. This feature can be set to forward calls within a few rings, when the user is busy or offline, among other options. The call forwarding feature was created by Ernest J. Bonnano and it has since become an important feature on most mobile phone brands.
