What do you call Yurok houses?

The traditional homes of the Yuroks, Native Americans from Northern California, are called plank houses because they are built with planks of cedar or redwood lashed to a wooden frame. The roofs are pitched and include a chimney. The structures are large, and each houses an extended family.

Most Yuroks in 2015 live in modern houses or apartment buildings. Many live on a reservation governed by the Yurok tribe, separate from the state and federal governments, with its own laws and infrastructure. Some live on Rancherias with other Native American tribes, such as the Wiyot, Hupa or Tolowa, which are governed by a tribal council made up of members elected by the residents.
