The number of calories in a typical serving of hard alcohol depends on the percent of alcohol by volume. Hard liquor types include vodka, tequila, gin and whiskey.
Beer, wine, sake and hard cider do not count as hard liquor. A typical serving of alcohol is 1.5 ounces, which is the same size as a typical shot. Some examples of the calorie count in hard liquor include Jose Cuervo Especial (Gold), which is 40 percent alcohol (80 proof) and has 96 calories; Bacardi 151 Rum, which is 75.5 percent alcohol (151 proof) and has 183 calories; Bombay Sapphire Gin, which is 47 percent alcohol (94 proof) and has 97 calories; and Grey Goose Vodka, which is 40 percent alcohol (80 proof) and has 97 calories.
