A person can only file the 1040EZ form if they are single or married filing jointly, make less than $100,000 a year, have no dependents, and are younger than 65. Although 1040EZ is the simplest form for filing taxes, benefits exist for using the longer tax forms.

A person can only deduct student loan interest or IRA contributions by using forms 1040 and 1040A. A blind person cannot use the 1040EZ form, nor can anyone who has earned $1,500 or more on interest. The income reported on the 1040EZ form must be either wages, salaries, tips, taxable scholarships or fellowships, unemployment compensation, or Alaska Permanent Fund dividends.
