To become a spy, earn an undergraduate degree, go to graduate school, make sure that your credit score and finances are stable, establish work experience, and apply at such agencies as the Central Intelligence Agency. It is also helpful to learn different languages, such as Mandarin, Farsi and Arabic.
- Obtain an education
Earn an undergraduate degree in such fields as criminal justice, foreign affairs, international relations, computer science, behavioral science or political science. Attend graduate school to get a competitive edge over other applicants. Strive for a minimum GPA of 3.0 or above to get accepted by a government institution.
- Manage your finances
Ensure that your credit history is in good standing to pass a background check, and manage your finances to gain approval from such agencies as the CIA. Stay out of trouble to keep your record clean, and keep a good handle of your emotions to project confidence and stability.
- Gain work experience
Apply for government internships at a local agency or in Washington, D.C. Accept an internship that applies to your field of study. Join the military to gain access to such departments as the U.S. Defense Department or the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Gain work experience through criminal justice or law enforcement if you intend to become a spy through the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
