Can bird mites live on humans?

Bird mites can bite humans but are unable to survive on human blood. They require a blood meal from a living bird host, and they die within three weeks without this food.

Bird mites may crawl on human skin after coming into contact, usually after an infected bird has found a way into a home through broken tiles or unprotected eaves.
