Can fleas live on humans?

Fleas can jump on humans and occasionally bite them, but they do not live on humans. Fleas prefer the deep fur of a cat, dog or other animal, though they jump on humans who are nearby.

If there are pets at home that go outdoors, they may become infested with fleas, which can multiply and infect the home. These fleas often jump around the home and onto humans living there. They do not prefer feeding on humans, so they rarely stay on them for very long. They eventually find their way back to the nearest animal. There are few places to hide on humans, which is why they don't choose this as their preferred living space.
