How can you clean large plastic containers?

To clean large plastic containers, wash the container with baking soda or clean the container with bleach. To absorb odors, leave newspaper, charcoal, or coffee grounds inside the container overnight.

Run through the following steps to clean large plastic containers.

1. Wash the container

Wash out the container with a mixture of soap and hot water.

2. Deep clean the container

Make a mixture of one tablespoon of baking soda to every quart of water. Pour the mixture into the container, let it soak for 30 minutes and then rinse out the container. The baking soda should remove most odors and clean the interior. Alternately, rub a lemon along the inside of the container and rinse away the residue or apply a paste of baking soda and water.

3. Bleach the container

If the container is stained, dilute one tablespoon of bleach in one cup of warm water. Cover the stain with the mixture and let it sit for 30 minutes.

4. Wash the container

Rinse the bleach from the container, and then wash it with hot soapy water.

5. Absorb odors

To get rid of any lingering smells, stuff the container with newspaper or add a piece of charcoal or some coffee grounds to the container. Let the paper, charcoal or grounds sit inside the container overnight to absorb unpleasant smells.
