Can you go to college with a GED?

Students can go to college with a General Educational Development test instead of a high school diploma. A GED can be used to apply for both two-year and four-year programs. However, a student needs more than just a GED to be accepted to college.

Prospective students also must typically take an entrance exam, such as the SAT or ACT. This test score, along with the entire application package, is evaluated in order to determine acceptance. Community colleges are a popular option for those who have a significant period of time between obtaining a GED and applying for college, and many community college credits can transfer into a four-year program.
