Prior to his NFL career, Russell Wilson played college football at North Carolina State University and the University of Wisconsin - Madison. During his college football career, Wilson was named ACC Rookie of the Year in 2008 and became the first freshman quarterback to be picked to All-ACC first team.

In his single season at the University of Wisconsin, Wilson played quarterback a team that won the Big Ten title and reach the 2012 Rose Bowl. On May 7, 2012, Wilson signed a four-year contract with the Seattle Seahawks and was appointed the starting quarterback on Aug. 26 of the same year.
