Where can you get a free credit report?

Consumers can obtain free credit reports from each of the three major credit reporting companies at AnnualCreditReport.com. Federal law mandates that these companies provide consumers with one free copy of each credit report per year.

Since reports from the three companies can contain different information, Equifax, Experian and TransUnion must each make one free report available each year to consumers. Consumers can order these reports through the Annual Credit Report website, by phone, or by mail at one central address. They can order the credit reports simultaneously or at separate times. The application requires a name, address, Social Security number and date of birth.
