Duck is a suitable source of animal protein for dogs to eat, according to Dogs Naturally Magazine and petMD.com. Dogs thrive on meat-based diets although they are omnivores and can also eat certain types of plant foods, such as grains, fruits and vegetables, according to Dogs Naturally Magazine.
Although duck meat is a premium source of protein, it is not a common ingredient in pet foods. A dog’s metabolic functions involve 22 amino acids, 10 of which are required to be supplied by dietary protein sources, such as duck meat. Dogs Naturally Magazine states that duck meat is classified as a cooling food in Chinese medicine and may be especially beneficial for dogs with allergies.
