Dogs can eat oatmeal. Oatmeal can contribute additional fiber to a dog's diet and can also help reduce the risk of heart disease and maintain the dogs' weight. According to Modern Dog magazine, oatmeal is also an ideal grain alternative for dogs that are allergic to wheat.
Cook oatmeal thoroughly before giving it to dogs. The oatmeal can be served to dogs plain, or other ingredients can be added, such as cooked eggs, a bit of cheese or sausage. Typically, seasonings such as salt or sugar should not be added to oatmeal for dogs. Another way to serve oatmeal to dogs is to mix it with regular dry dog food.
