The trial (demo) version of "Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings" can be downloaded from PC World's official website. A trial version of the later "Age of Empires III," meanwhile, can be downloaded from the official Microsoft website.

The "Age of Empires II" trial version starts in the Dark Ages. The player is tasked with building an empire from the small beginnings of just three villagers, a Scout and a Town Center. The empire should grow powerful enough to destroy two non-player (computer-controlled) enemies.

The file size of the trial version is 45 megabytes, and it is compatible with Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 and later.
