Can you play "Age of Empires Online"?

Microsoft shut down "Age of Empires Online" on July 1, 2014. "Age of Empires Online" was a free online multiplayer strategy game featuring multiple civilizations for a variety of gameplay.

"Age of Empires II: HD Edition" and "Age of Empires III" still feature online multiplayer support, as of 2015. Microsoft canceled online multiplayer support for the original "Age of Empires" in 2006, along with many other CD-based games, including the original "Age of Empires II."

The "Age of Empires" series is a franchise of real-time strategy games. Microsoft published the original title in 1997. In 2015, Microsoft released "Age of Empires: Castle Siege" for mobile devices.
