Can you play "The Sims 2" online?

According to About.com, there are no online gameplay features in any version of "The Sims 2" as of 2014. The game also is not downloadable from the Internet.

The PS2, Gamecube and Xbox versions of "The Sims 2" feature a two-player split screen mode. About.com's review for "The Sims 2" states that the sounds and graphics presented within the game are good, but the realism presented within the game is definitely a turn-off at times. For example, "The Sims 2" has realistic events involving virtual people within the game, such as being on time and negligence. This only makes sense in a game that is meant to simulate real life.
