How can I drain water out of my ears after swimming?

In order to drain the ear safely after swimming, first dry the outer ear with a towel. Gently tilt and shake your head to drain any water inside the ear. It may also help to squirt acetic acid or a combination of rubbing alcohol and vinegar into the ear canal.

Do not insert any objects into the ear canal in an attempt to release water. This can force the water and ear wax farther inside and damage the ear. Be sure to not swim in open water on days that the bacterial count is high. Earplugs can be worn to prevent water from getting into the ears while swimming.
