Can drinking baking soda help gout?

Drinking a mixture of baking soda and water can raise the pH level in the body and give relief for painful gout attacks, states Natural News. Baking soda, also known as sodium bicarbonate, is an alkalizing agent that can alleviate gout temporarily.
Relief can be found immediately after drinking a mixture of 8 ounces of water and 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda on an empty stomach, according to Natural News. This may stop gout attacks before they start when taken daily. Sodium bicarbonate is high in sodium, so salt intake should be greatly reduced to avoid high blood pressure and alkalosis.
