When can I dye my hair after a perm?

To minimize scalp and hair damage, at least two weeks should pass between perming and coloring hair. Most hair color contains components that penetrate the hair's cuticle and further weaken strands that have already been chemically altered by a perm.
When attempting to apply both processes to hair, evaluate the results you would like to achieve in order to guide your process. For home hair coloring, it is recommended that only temporary and semi-permanent dyes be used to enrich or darken the natural shade; these dyes do not penetrate the strands to lift the original hair color. For permanent hair color, a professional stylist should be consulted to avoid complications.
