According to scientists at University of California, Santa Barbara, first snow is edible, but only if it is clean and not contaminated. Snow can pick up pollutants in the air and other contaminants on the ground, which can make it unsafe to eat.
Snow may also have the presence of red algae, which can give it a pink appearance, and one should avoid eating this snow as it can cause illness. However, if the snow is fresh, white, in a clean location with minimal dirt and pollution, and hygienically collected before exposed to filth, then it is fine to eat.
