Four-prong dryer cords are available at national chain stores such as Sears or Best Buy, local appliance retailers and electronics stores. Online retailers, such as Amazon and appliance and electronics vendors, also offer dryer cords to fit most dryers. Cords are also available directly from appliance manufacturers.

When changing a dryer cord, disconnect the existing cord from the outlet before attempting to change cords, use insulated hand tools and position the dryer so there is adequate light and full access to the back panel. As of 2014, all homes built after 2000 are required to contain four-prong appliance outlets to comply with National Electrical Code requirements.
