Agapanthus can be grown from seed. Also known as African lilies, Agapanthus plants are slow to germinate and can take up to five years before blooming when grown from seed.

To propagate agapanthus from seed, acquire seeds from a mature plant in the spring. Sow immediately in starter pots with a 3:1 ratio of potting soil to sand. Water after placing two seeds in each pot. Cover with a thin soil layer, then cover with plastic wrap and place the pots on seedbed warmers. Sprouts should appear in three to five weeks. Put the plants in a bigger pot after they are 1 inch tall, then transplant them outdoors in the autumn.
