When can you hold newborn puppies?

Do not handle newborn puppies much until they are at least 2 weeks old. Once the puppies are 3 weeks old, begin holding them gently for brief periods of time. If the puppy's rejected or separated from its mother, it may be handled for the purpose of feeding and warmth.
Handling puppies after their eyes and ears begin to function and their teeth start to break through is an important part of dog socialization. Children should not hold a puppy without adult supervision. Take puppies to the vet to have their first set of shots administered at 6 weeks of age.
