How can you identify lice in hair?

To identify head lice, spend five to 15 minutes carefully combing through hair with a fine-toothed comb. Look for lice as the comb is drawn through the hair. Head lice look like tiny grey and brown insects and are about the size of a sesame seed.

Special detection combs are available for purchase at pharmacies that make it easier to spot and remove lice. Washing hair with normal shampoo and covering it with conditioner before combing can also make it easier to find lice. If head lice are found, it is best to consult a physician, pharmacist or nurse for advice on treatment.
