Plans and pre-fabricated building kits for Katrina Cottages are available from their original designer, Marianne Cusato. They are also available from general building plan retailers such as Houseplans.

The cottages are no longer available from the national home improvement chain Lowe's. While the company has carried them in the past, they have been discontinued there since 2011.

Katrina Cottages are named for Hurricane Katrina. The inspiration for their design was the need for reliable, quickly-built housing in New Orleans following the hurricane. They are intended to be a permanent, hurricane-safe replacement for short-term FEMA trailers and are most commonly found in Louisiana and Mississippi.
