Katrina Cottages are small kit houses or cottages built after hurricane Katrina destroyed the homes of thousands of people in the New Orleans area in August 2005. These cottages are small, attractive, permanent and low priced. The trailer homes provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency to the people affected by hurricane Katrina were considered very inadequate and provided little protection from the elements.
