Mystery snails may be kept in the same tank as other fish, according to PetSmart. However, larger species such as gouramis and skunk loaches may eat or disturb smaller snails. Shy and peaceful fish are the most compatible tank mates for the mystery snail.

Mystery snails are prized by aquarium enthusiasts because they are low-maintenance and come in a variety of colored shells which may grow up to two inches. Known for their ability to keep tanks clean, mystery snails move across the surface of the tank to remove rotting vegetation and green algae. Vegetables and commercial flake and pellet foods are also readily accepted by this bottom-dweller.
