Can you keep garden snails as pets?

Garden snails are suitable as pets, especially for kids, as they need little maintenance. Snails mainly eat fruits and vegetables, but they also need foods high in calcium, such as crushed egg shells or cuttlefish bone, for growing and maintaining their shells.

Snails usually live for 3 to 7 years in captivity. They don't need water as long as their environment is humid enough, but having a water source is preferable. Salt is fatal to snails, and salty foods should be avoided. Snails do have a breathing organ between their shell and body, so their cage must allow air flow.
