Laminate flooring can be installed over radiant heat. Other types of flooring that can also be installed over radiant heat include tile, engineered wood and stone.
Laminate is considered an ideal type of flooring to install over radiant heat because it does not expand. Radiant heat is generated by pushing heat up through a home's flooring surface. This is sometimes done with water that is heated and pumped through a series of pipes underneath the floor. These are called hydronic radiant heating systems. In hydronic systems, it is not the water that heats the floors but the energy that is released from it. Electric radiant heating systems use very thin mats through which the heat is distributed.
