Individuals seeking a list of doctors in their HMO network can search through the website of the insurance provider, such as Medicare.gov to find physicians, according to the U.S. Government site for Medicare. Patients can search for hospitals, home health services, nursing homes, doctors and health professionals online.

Patients with an HMO insurance plan cannot receive health care services from health providers, hospitals or physicians unless allowed by the health care plan or in the event that emergency care is needed, explains Medicare.gov. Some plans allow patients to receive health care from out-of-network doctors for an additional fee or with a referral from a primary physician.
