The 14 store closures represent less than 2 percent of Macy's 790 store locations, and approximately 1,300 employees will be laid off as a result. Macy's is closing these locations in order to continue restructuring their organization to focus more on online sales, which have been steadily increasing every year. The store closures are expected to save the company about $140 million per year in costs.
