Lists of the top 10 banks in the United States are available online at USNews.com, Forbes.com, GoBankingRates.com and Bankrate.com, as of March 2015. The criteria for a list of the top banks vary by site.

Bankrate and Forbes order the banks by their asset holdings, so JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America and Citigroup Inc. are the top three.

U.S. News and World Report bases its list on the banks' products, such as checking accounts, loans, insurance and many others. Wells Fargo, BBVA Compass and Bank of America claim the top spots.

GoBankingRates offers a list of the top online banks, and its list focuses on attributes similar to those in the U.S. News and World Report list.
