How can you make direct debit payments to the IRS?

Taxpayers make direct debit payments to the Internal Revenue Service by navigating to its official site, IRS.gov, clicking on the Payments tab from the home page, and then clicking on IRS Direct Pay. The service is free to use and offers direct debit from a checking or savings account.
To make a payment, the taxpayer clicks on Make a Payment, chooses a form to apply the payment to and selects a reason for the payment and the tax year for the payment, notes the IRS. The taxpayer then enters identifying information and banking information to complete the payment process. After paying, taxpayers can click Look Up a Payment to view the status of payments and payment details.
