"Tobermory" by Saki is a short story that was published in a 1911 collection called The Chronicles of Clovis. It is about a cat that was trained to talk by Cornelius Appin, disrupting a dinner party with his malicious words.
In the story, the cat threatens to reveal the secrets he has heard, and it is decided by the members of the dinner party that he must be killed. Tobermory's body is found near the end of the story, apparently killed by another cat. His trainer, Cornelius Appin, is apparently killed by an elephant. The story is a satire about the hypocrisy and pretension of Edwardian society.
