Neoprene is a synthetic rubber fabric used to make wetsuits, laptop sleeves and drum practice pads. It has numerous industrial applications because of its durability and flexibility. Manufacturers also use it in electrical insulation as well as automobile fan belts. Its use has also expanded into clothing and home accessories.

Neoprene is thick and water-resistant. More recently, manufacturers have used it for Halloween masks and shoes. Television remote controls, horse saddle pads and wheelchair harnesses are other applications. DuPont developed the first neoprene in 1930. It is becoming increasingly popular in fashion trends and as a protective accessory for electronic devices.
